" My Experience with Dawn Treader

Dawn Treader is part of my village. Both of my children have been there since kindergarten; Madison is now 11 in the 6th grade and Reagan is 7 in the 2nd grade. They are learning the building blocks of success and that starts with Christ every morning. My children praise our God, along with the other children of Dawn Treader Christian School. The staff is amazing and makes themselves available to the parents so we can be a team in the educational process. Dr. Welch gave us the okay to take a day off 4/2024 so I could take my children upstate NY so we could be in the path of totality for a solar eclipse. Yes we drove 3 ½ hours for an educational experience that lasted about 4 minutes 21 seconds. Mr. Berra went to burger king for Reagan, who was epi-pen allergies to a lot of foods, and bought his lunch when he ran out of his favorite lunch food at home. Ms. Williams, the music director who saw potential in my Daughter Madison, a fairly shy girl who she helped to bring out of her shell and is now singing in the ensemble. For these reasons and many more, Dawn Treader is part of my village.

How did we get here?

Both of the children attended the daycare downstairs and they suggested I put Madison in Dawn Treader. I said absolutely not, she's going to a charter school for free. I did not want to pay for elementary education. I had one plan and God has another. I witnessed how that charter school interacted with their scholars and I was appalled. I used Dawn Treader as my backup plan. Reagan was still downstairs. I knew I wouldn't be able to pick them both up on time. It was convenience but quickly realized that a Christian education was a necessity. Sending Reagan was a no brainer.

How did it change our lives?

Strengthen my bond with Christ. We went for quarterly visits to the church to weekly attendance. Stopped making excuses on why we couldn’t and started showing up! We put God first and everything else works itself out. Could I say more? I absolutely can! I will say this in a time of uncertainty, I am proud that my children are learning the building blocks of being a Good Christian, giving back, charity work, true discipleship and an education that puts them on the path for success.

DTCS has blessed our entire household by continually watching our child soar to greater heights. She is really blossoming spiritually, emotionally as well as academically as a young . Miss Darby is a remarkable 7th/8th grade teacher. She is the type of teacher that would challenge you to do your very best. Miss Darby knows how to reach each one of her students at their levels. I am blessed to know her. She has taught 3 of my children. Miss Darby is a great asset to DTCS.

“Our experience at Dawn Treader has been just wonderful. We were a bit skeptical about enrolling Cloe because everything was virtual and we did not want her on the computer for so long. However, Mrs. Drakeford's teaching style has made the transition so much easier. The students get breaks, do activities, and get free time to just socialize as if they were really in class.
In addition, the family style culture is quite evident within the interactions of teacher to parent, among the staff and also parent to administration. We automatically felt comfortable in allowing Cloe to join the school after meeting you, Mrs. Darby and Mrs. Montero. Thank you all for your hard work.”
